On the home screen, press and hold Grown-ups: hold in the corner until the bar fills. The first time, you’ll choose a four-digit PIN and enter it twice. After that, enter your PIN each time.

There is no default or recovery PIN, so a child can’t get around it. To reset it, clear the app’s data in the tablet’s settings (Settings → Apps & Notifications → Manage All Applications → Sprout Words → Storage → Clear Data) or uninstall and reinstall the app. This also erases saved practice progress and settings, so keep your PIN somewhere safe.

Open the grown-up settings. Practice level chooses where new words come from; earlier levels stay in review. Pace sets new words per round and questions per round. Allow working ahead is off by default; when on, extra practice can move words along faster.

Check the tablet’s volume and that nothing is muted. Then open the grown-up settings and make sure Sound is on. All audio is built in, so Wi-Fi is not needed.

No. After it’s installed, Sprout Words works completely offline. The app does not connect to the internet at all.

Progress is saved only on the tablet, in the app’s own storage. There is no cloud backup or sync, so progress doesn’t move to another device, and clearing the app’s data or uninstalling the app removes it.

Not yet. The current version includes curated Level K, K+, 1, and 2 word sets. Custom lists are something we’d like to add later.

Sprout Words is sold through the Amazon Appstore, so purchases and refunds are handled by Amazon under its policies. Contact Amazon customer service about a refund. We’re still happy to hear what went wrong.
